Axel Disasi warns Chelsea players before the final against Liverpool

With the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool fast approaching, Chelsea central defender Axel Disasi has advised his teammates to remain humble and focused despite recent improved form.

The Blues head into Sunday’s Wembley showpiece seeking a first domestic trophy under Mauricio Pochettino. An unbeaten three-match run, including an impressive draw at Manchester City, has eased pressure on the manager’s position.

However, Disasi stressed the team must keep working hard and not get complacent.

“Our last three matches were very good but we have to be humble and keep fighting like we are now. Since the beginning of the season, there have been a lot of expectations. Just because we played well in the last three games doesn’t mean Chelsea are back. We have to be humble, but you can see we are improving every day.”

While progress has been made, Disasi acknowledged the team remains a work in progress.

“We must continue to maintain this level. The next match is the final and we will learn from that match. We gained a lot of confidence before that match. We need to rest and prepare for this final in the best way,” he added.

Reaching the League Cup showpiece offers Chelsea the chance to salvage a dismal season. Despite lifting the Champions League trophy under Thomas Tuchel less than two years ago, the London club has badly regressed.

Currently toiling in 10th place in the Premier League, Chelsea will almost certainly miss out on Champions League qualification. Silverware represents the last avenue for success.

Liverpool provides a stern test as they seek to clinch a record ninth League Cup crown. The Reds also possess a psychological edge, having hammered Chelsea 5-1 on aggregate across two league meetings this term.

But Pochettino’s men arrive off the back of an impressive draw at the Etihad Stadium. Quickly forgetting that result and maintaining humility will be vital if the Blues are to stand any chance of an upset at Wembley.

The stage is set for a hotly anticipated final. Disasi and co must continue playing without complacency and fight for every ball to give Chelsea a shot at glory.
