Despite a long string of failures, Chelsea managed to secure three points by defeating Leeds 1-0.
In their last five Premier League games, Chelsea had lost two and drawn three. Even on all fronts, they had won only one of their last ten matches. Therefore, the pressure was weighing heavily on the team coached by Potter. However, Chelsea found their winning form again by defeating Leeds, a team fighting to avoid relegation, with a score of 1-0.
Chelsea did not excel in their gameplay even though they were playing at home. The team only controlled the ball for 58% of the time, had 13 shots, and had three shots on target at Stamford Bridge. With 42% ball possession, Leeds also had 11 shots, with two hitting the target. The away team was not far behind the home team, but unfortunately, they were not good at scoring.
After an ineffective first half, with the only dangerous situation being a shot hitting the crossbar by Felix in the 21st minute, Chelsea tried to increase their attack in the second half and scored in the 53rd minute.
Wesley Fofana joined the corner kick, jumped high, and headed the ball into the net from a distance of less than 5m. Fofana’s goal became the turning point of the game, securing three points for Chelsea. With the additional three points, Chelsea now has 34 points and is still in 10th place on the leaderboard. Potter’s team is 11 points behind the 4th place as Tottenham lost to Wolves in this round.
