Aubameyang Transfer News

  • From: Barcelona
  • Transfer to: Chelsea
  • Transfer fee: £12m

On Thursday, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signed a two-year contract with Chelsea from Barcelona worth €12 million. This deal will bring him back to the Premier League.

The Stamford Bridge club and Aubameyang have agreed to a two-year contract. Romelu Lukaku, who left Chelsea for Inter Milan following a lackluster season, will be replaced by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the Blues’ new No. 9.

Given that the Chelsea player took a wage cut to join Barca previously this year, the Blues are willing to enhance Aubameyang contract‘s salary substantially. Relevo, a Spanish news source, claims that Chelsea would double his pay at Stamford Bridge.

Aubameyang stated he had “unfinished business” in England after joining Chelsea and expressed his joy at the prospect of working with Thomas Tuchel again, his former boss at Borussia Dortmund.

In response to Aubameyang’s decision, Tuchel stated on Friday that he “hopes” that he would play for him the same way as he performed in Germany.

Aubameyang missed Saturday’s London derby against West Ham due to injury. Kai Havertz scored the game’s only goal. Yet, there is a feeling that the new signing will give the Stamford Bridge team more danger once he returns from a face injury incurred during a break-in at his home while in Spain.

Xavi ‘Feels Bad’ After Aubameyang Joins Chelsea

Aubameyang had an outstanding six months at Camp Nou after arriving there on a free transfer from Arsenal in February. Despite only appearing in half of the season, he finished the year as Barca’s 13-goal leading scorer.

However, Barca made significant summer purchases. Also, the €50 million transfer of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich — an Aubameyang’s teammate from Borussia Dortmund — prevented the Gabon captain from playing for the Barca first squad this year.

After Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner didn’t pan out, Chelsea looked for a striker. And Aubameyang cost €12 million when Barcelona needed a cash infusion. Barca made a nice profit, but Barca manager, Xavi Hernandez, feels bad about it.

In his pre-game media conference on Friday, Xavi expressed his regret for the player who had done so much for the team.

“He is an example on and off the pitch; he made a big difference; just look at his numbers. As a person, he is a jewel, always training with a smile on his face. It’s a shame because these kinds of players you want to have in your squad, but it was a good opportunity for him and the club as well.”

“We needed to put the pieces of the puzzle together, we are all happy, but I feel bad as a coach to lose a player like Aubameyang. He was an example for the entire club and all the players.” – he continued.
