Frank Lampard suffers fifth defeat in a row as Brentford win

Lampard is unable to control Chelsea as the former English footballer is in freefall with his old team. After four consecutive defeats, Chelsea was expected to make changes when they hosted mid-table team Brentford in the 33rd round of the Premier League. However, there was no change for Chelsea.

Chelsea dominated Brentford from the opening whistle. However, the biggest mark Chelsea made was in ball possession. Despite continuously taking shots, the home team did not create too many dangerous chances for Brentford’s goal.

The surprise came in the 37th minute, an own goal from Azpilicueta helped the visitors take the lead 1-0. In the second half, Chelsea attacked fiercely in search of an equalizer, but their attacking organization was still not good.

While Chelsea kept pushing forward, they were hit on the counter-attack in the 78th minute. Mbeumo took a shot from the right side, the ball hit a Chelsea player’s leg and changed direction into the net. The second goal also became the knockout blow to Chelsea’s hopes of getting any points.

Chelsea lost their fifth consecutive match under Lampard, their third consecutive defeat in the Premier League, and are now in 11th place. With their current form, it will be very difficult for Chelsea to qualify for European competition next season (most likely finishing in 8th place in the Premier League).
