Potter put his hopes on Sterling against Dortmund
Manager Graham Potter hinted that he will start Raheem Sterling in the Chelsea vs Dortmund second-leg match of the round of 16 in the 2022/23 Champions League.
Chelsea lost 0-1 to Dortmund in the first-leg match played in Germany. Therefore, they must win against the Bundesliga representative in the upcoming match on the morning of March 8th if they want to advance in this competition.
The good news for Chelsea is that the players’ spirits are quite high after their 1-0 victory against Leeds in the English Premier League last weekend, thanks to Wesley Fofana’s goal. He was one of the three central defenders in Chelsea’s starting lineup against Leeds that day. This is also a change by Potter because he has mostly used a 4-defender formation before.
Now, Potter will need to make more changes, this time for the attacking front, so that Chelsea can penetrate Dortmund’s defense. It is likely that Sterling will start in the 3-4-3 formation that Chelsea used to beat Leeds.
It is expected that Chelsea’s attacking trio in the upcoming match against Dortmund will consist of Sterling-Felix-Havertz. This means that newcomer Mykhailo Mudryk will have to be on the bench. Personally, Potter speaks highly of Sterling:
“Sterling’s scoring record in the Champions League speaks for itself. He has had some memorable moments in this competition. We have high expectations for him, and Sterling can definitely play in the Chelsea vs Dortmund match and shine in his own way”.
