Todd Boehly delivered a pre-Real Madrid pep talk to Chelsea’s players in the Stamford Bridge dressing room after the latest demoralising defeat to Brighton on Saturday in which he labelled the club’s plight as “embarrassing”.
As it is known, Chelsea suffered their third consecutive defeat under manager Frank Lampard, losing 1-2 to Brighton in the 31st round of the Premier League last weekend.
Pressure is mounting on Lampard and owner Todd Boehly. After the Brighton match, many Chelsea fans directed bitter and insulting words toward Boehly in his designated area.
This further angered the American billionaire. According to the Daily Mail, he went straight into the dressing room to vent his anger at the players.
According to a close source, Boehly emphasized that the team’s performance was shameful and that they spent £600 million to build a winning team. However, the players did not meet expectations.
A series of “blockbuster” signings like Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Wesley Fofana were brought to Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea is currently only in 11th place in the Premier League table, 35 points behind Arsenal in the first place.
The fact that Chelsea sacked two managers this season, Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, shows the instability of the club. Lampard is also only working temporarily until the end of the season before giving way to a new manager.
Not only are they struggling in the Premier League, but Chelsea also face the risk of being knocked out of the Champions League. They lost 0-2 to Real Madrid in the first leg of the quarter-finals. The chance for The Blues to turn the tables in the rematch at Stamford Bridge is quite low.
According to the schedule, the match between Chelsea and Real Madrid will take place on April 18th.
